Tony Petrello attended Yale University where he earned his M.S. in Mathematics. He then went to Harvard Law School and earned his law degree. He began his professional career in 1979 as a lawyer at the New York City law firm Baker & McKenzie where he focused on corporate tax issues. In 1986 he became the Managing Partner of the firm until he resigned in 1991.
It was in 1991 that Tony Petrello arrived at Nabors Industries, Ltd. Nabors is the largest land-based driller in the world when it comes to oil, natural gas, and geothermal. It has over 610 rigs in the United States alone and has operations in Canada, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. As the President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board, Mr. Petrello is responsible for the strategic vision of the company as well as its day to day operations. Working in the oil industry requires leaders that can adapt to the competitive and ever-changing nature of the business, a skill that Tony Petrello ably provides Nabors Industries.

Due to his successful leadership of Nabors, Tony Petrello was awarded $27.66 million in total compensation in fiscal year 2015. That was actually a reduction from what his compensation had been in previous years, such as in 2013 when he was paid $68.2 million. In 2014 the company had a change in its corporate governance and compensation rules in order to return more money to shareholders. However, Tony Petrello continues to being one of the top paid CEO’s in the nation.
